I am a certified CAPPA Postpartum Doula working in the NYC area to provide the care and support that families need in the postpartum months. My practice melds theory and practicality – I am eager to help parents understand their new addition and battle google overwhelm, and also to help the family adjust to the physical changes a newborn brings. Whether it’s understanding the reason for a baby’s cry or rearranging a space to support new rhythms, I am eager to work with families to translate their vision for parenthood into reality. I aim to increase confidence, support your parenting journey, and allow you to be beautifully present during the postpartum months. I have my Bachelors in Public Health from Davidson College and a Masters in Educational Psychology from Hunter College. I have more than a decade of experience working with parents and caring for children in a diverse array of circumstances, tailoring my support to the unique needs of each family. As a caregiver on Care.com and Sittercity I have maintained a 5 star rating while working for over 100 families. For five years I worked in public schools – first as an assistant kindergarten teacher in a gifted & talented classroom and then as a special education manager at a charter school. I led the special education program which involved identifying students’ weaknesses through testing, creating teaching plans, training therapists and teachers, and finally monitoring and adjusting the plans as necessary. I have dedicated my educational and professional careers to understanding how to structure support systems that allow children to thrive and I’m excited to continue this work with my clients.
For the expecting mamas out there, I would like to share with you my postpartum experience, and the role Jess played in my journey. This December I had my first child, during my medical residency training. I had spent the weeks right up to my delivery working, so I could save days off. My family lives 2 flights away, and after the birth I felt overwhelmed. Jess, a friend from college reached out to offer support. She was aware of the difficulties with finding childcare or for my parents to fly during Covid. Given her nanny training she offered to fly and stay with us for almost 2 weeks. During that time Jess was amazing. She guided me through this challenging time emotionally, mentally, and physically. She never hesitated or made it seem like a burden. During the middle of winter she refused to let me do any of the chores, and even helped with our meals, laundry, and cleaning. The most beneficial part was her attention to my health as well as my baby’s needs. She rocked, sang and read to my baby daily, treating him as her own. She’d take him in the early hours of the morning so my husband and I could get some rest. I’ve always known Jess to be a caring person. During this time I found her to also be extremely professional and efficient. She is quick in her feet, easy going, and low maintenance. In our 1200 square foot apartment she managed to constantly support us and simultaneously give us space. I sincerely recommend her to all the mamas needing a little extra love and care, and I hope she can share her strength with many other women.
