Hi - I’m Shira, a mother of two and a dietitian of 10+ years. My experience as a clinician and within my home have given me a unique perspective on the vulnerability of pregnancy, postpartum and feeding a family — and how to sustainably and sensibly nourish oneself through it. Via one-on-one virtual nutrition counseling, I support families during the all-encompassing life phase of pregnancy and postpartum, and teach parents simple, practical approaches to creating more intuitive eaters while building a positive feeding relationship with their child. My goal is to help you feel confident, encouraged and supported, and focus on what’s most important: take the stress out of eating and feeding, and achieve your goals in a sustainable way. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master’s degree in Nutrition & Dietetics from New York University.
Shira is brilliant - an adjective based on comparative experiences with other nutritional counseling. I cannot believe what we compressed into an hour or less. Dozens of prepared questions of mine, specific and manifold suggestions on dietary changes and additions. A very ideational meeting. D. S. // Thank you so much for our conversation and this follow up summary! I'm still amazed by how quickly and compassionately you were able to zero in on some of my current areas of opportunity and formulate very approachable goals to start making progress. I've been working on all of them and wanted to be sure to tell you how much I appreciate your expertise and support! L. E. // It was fantastic talking with you, and I feel so much more confident about how I'm eating during pregnancy even after our brief chat. Thank you so much for your time and insights. S. L. // When I was pregnant and diagnosed with gestational diabetes, Shira was truly the key to my sanity and success during the last two months of my pregnancy. She not only provided advice and information that I did not receive from my doctor, but made me feel calmer with facts about what I could and couldn’t control, how to experiment with different foods, and genuine empathy. I valued her non-judgmental and flexible approach during a vulnerable time. A. F.
