Hello, my name is Sela (say-la) and I’m a New York based birth doula who is certified with the National Black Doula Association. I am also a lactation consultant (Birth Day Presence) and an herbal therapist (with Hood Herbalism) and an NYC Birth Village agency employee. When it comes to birthwork I give my all to each and every one of my clients. Believing that my purpose is helping mothers feel confident in their ability to make healthy children, birth them, and raise them with grace. I’ve known that birth work was my calling since I was 16 years old; around the time I found out that I was the only one of my siblings that my mother used both a midwife and doula for. I had spent most of my free time even before that, watching birth videos and collecting birth stories from the women in my family. It was a hobby before it became my profession. Birth work chose me and I accept the responsibility. It is not only my job, it is my joy.
“Words cannot express how grateful I am to have had the expertise and support of Sela Patrice throughout the entire process. She was very responsive and even went above and beyond to check on me when I became too busy to check in. Her nurturing and caring nature helped me a lot during labor. I felt safe, supported, and well informed to make decisions that helped me have the experience that I wanted. She encouraged me to be my own advocate and to do what was best for me and the baby. She was a huge help in encouraging my mother and partner to joining on supporting me during labor which made it a beautiful experience for all three of us. I will be referring Sela Patrice to my friends and family because I know that she will be a great support. Her professionalism and expertise is superb. I look forward to hiring her as my doula for future pregnancies.”
